Christ instituted the sacrament of Penance for all sinful members of his Church: above all for those who, since Baptism, have fallen into grave sin, and have thus lost their baptismal grace and wounded ecclesial communion. It is then that the sacrament of Penance offers a new possibility to convert and to recover the grace of justification.

What is Reconciliation? / ¿Qué es la Reconciliación?
Reconciliation — also known as Confession or Penance — is one of the seven sacraments of the Catholic Church. Through this sacrament, those who have sinned receive God’s mercy and forgiveness, and are reconciled with both God and the Church. It is one of the greatest gifts of our faith.
La Reconciliación — también conocida como Confesión o Penitencia — es uno de los siete sacramentos de la Iglesia Católica. A través de este sacramento, quienes han pecado reciben la misericordia y el perdón de Dios, y se reconcilian tanto con Dios como con la Iglesia. Es uno de los regalos más grandes de nuestra fe.
How to Go to Confession / Cómo ir a Confesión
English:
- Examine your conscience — Reflect on your thoughts, words, and actions since your last confession
- Be truly sorry — Have sincere contrition for your sins
- Enter the confessional — Approach the confessional when it is your turn and greet the priest
- Confess your sins — Tell the priest your sins honestly and completely
- Receive your penance — The priest will assign a penance for you to complete
- Pray the Act of Contrition — Express your sorrow to God
- Receive absolution — The priest absolves you in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit
- Complete your penance — Fulfill the penance given to you

English: “O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended you and I detest all my sins, because I dread the loss of heaven and the pains of hell. But most of all because I have offended you, my God, who are all good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve with the help of your grace, to confess my sins, to do penance and to amend my life. Amen.”
Español: “Dios mío, me arrepiento de todo corazón de todos mis pecados y los aborrezco, porque al pecar, no solo merezco las penas establecidas por ti justamente, sino principalmente porque te ofendí a ti, sumo Bien y digno de amor por encima de todas las cosas.
